Biography

Since 1989, John S. Joyce has practiced law as a partner with Gasparri and Joyce S.C. John focuses his practice on criminal defense and civil litigation. John is licensed by the Supreme Court of the State of Wisconsin to practice in the State Courts of Wisconsin and the United States Federal District Courts of the Eastern District of Wisconsin. Throughout his over 30 years of practice as a lawyer, John has represented hundreds of litigants in the criminal and civil courts of the State of Wisconsin. In the criminal courts, John has secured dismissals from Judges and not guilty verdicts from juries in jury trials in which he was lead Defense counsel at trial in felony OWI, felony sexual assault, white collar, and homicide cases. 


John has also secured countless modification of charges in felony and misdemeanor cases for his clients through his careful and aggressive motion practice and preparation, and, as a consequence of his many years as a litigator and a negotiator. In the civil courts, John has likewise resolved successfully cases for his clients in trials and through settlement including Wrongful Death cases and other cases in which his clients have been injured seriously. John is also a vigorous advocate for his clients in the Divorce Courts of the State of Wisconsin where he represents his clients in child custody, support, and property division matters. 
 
John Stephen Joyce was born on the 13th of January 1962 in the City of Gary, Indiana to Charles and Jeanne Joyce. John’s father worked as an industrial bricklayer in the coke ovens of the steel mills of Northwest Indiana and the South Side of Chicago. John spent his childhood in the industrial area of Northwest Indiana, known as the Calumet Region, and attended high school at Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond, Indiana.
 
Following his graduation from high school in 1981, John attended his first year of college at Illinois Benedictine College in Lisle, Illinois. Following his freshman year, John transferred to Marquette University where he majored in Political Science and German. While attending Marquette University, John spent time during his junior and senior years studying in West Germany, and living in what was then West Berlin and Hildesheim during the last decade of the Cold War.
 
Following his undergraduate graduation from Marquette University in 1985, (Bachelor of Arts), John received a full graduate scholarship and research assistantship stipend from Marquette University’s Department of Political Science. John spent the first year following his college graduation attending the Master’s program in the Department of Political Science at Marquette University and working as a research assistant in that program.
 
Following the year of graduate studies in Political Science, John attended Marquette University Law School from 1986 through 1989. After receiving his law degree from Marquette Law School in 1989, (Juris Doctor), and working briefly for a Milwaukee personal injury law firm, John opened Gasparri and Joyce S.C. in 1989 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with his law partner and wife, Sandra Gasparri.
